Ultimate Torsion Tests for Pro-Modified Shafts
Torsion Test Results
For a typical IHRA Pro-Modified Drag Car application
with a driveshaft length of 36 3/8”,
BAC’s carbon driveshaft removed 6.6
pounds of rotating weight over a
standard 3.0” OD chrome-moly shaft.
This is a 53% weight reduction without
sacrificing any strength.
Both shafts have approximately the same
ultimate torsional strength. The chromemoly
shaft failed at 5,667 ft•lbs and BAC’s
carbon shaft failed at 5,417 ft•lbs. Also note
that the BAC shaft has greater torsional
flexibility (higher angle of rotation per torque
load) than the steel shaft. This increased torsional flexibility absorbs impact loading
(torque spikes) due to “clutch pop”. It also
increases the cycle life of all other drivetrain
components connected to the shaft.

Custom lengths are available in quantities with 1310U, 1330U, or 1350U type U-joints; 3.6” standard O.D. Finished driveshafts are shipped with DANA Spicer heavy duty U-joints (no slip yoke). Please call for more information.
